さん is the most common Japanese honorific suffix, added to the end of names, titles, or professions to show respect and politeness. Similar to Mr., Ms., Mrs., or dear, it is gender-neutral and used for peers, acquaintances, and strangers to maintain a respectful distance. It is rarely used for oneself.
