Arcade Games

Kana Match, Vocab Blitz, Reading Race, and the rest.

遊 · Arcade Games

Practice that doesn't feel like practice.

The arcade is a set of short, fast games built from the exact kana and vocabulary you're already learning. They're a change of pace from reviews that still does real work: a couple of minutes that tells you which items are solid and which are about to trip you up.

基 · The basics

How games fit into Fuguro.

  1. 1
Pure practice, no strings.Games never write to your reviews and never change your SRS. There's no progress to lose and no streak at risk, so you can play a round whenever you feel like it.
  2. 2
Built from your own items.Every game pulls from the kana and vocabulary in levels you've already cleared, so you're always drilling the real things you're studying, never random filler.
  3. 3
One set per phase.Kana games belong to Phase 1 (Kana Awakening) and vocabulary games belong to Phase 2 (Core Ascent). The set that matches where you are is the one that's open.
  4. 4
A round is a minute or two. These are short on purpose. Squeeze one in after a lesson, between review sessions, or any time you want a break that still counts.
  5. 5
A headliner every day.The arcade features one game on the front each day, so there's always an easy place to start when you're not sure what to play.

You'll find Gamesin the main menu, next to lessons and reviews. The page shows the day's headliner up top, then every game laid out by phase.

手順 · Starting a round

From the arcade to playing.

  1. Step 1 · Pick a game

Choose a drill from the arcade.

Open the headliner or tap any game in your phase. Each one has a different format, so the same items feel new depending on whether you're matching, listening, or typing.

  2. Step 2 · Pick what to play

A single level, or a bit of everything.

Choose one of the levels you've already finished to focus on its items, or hit Surprise Meto mix in items from everything you've cleared. Levels you haven't reached yet stay locked until you get there.

  3. Step 3 · Set the dials

    Tune the difficulty and sound.

Most games let you dial the difficulty up or down before you start, and toggle sound on or off. Pick the setting that keeps you on your toes without tipping into frustrating.

  4. Step 4 · Play

    Read, listen, match, or type.

The round runs, you get your score, and that's it. The score lives only in that round to push you next time. Nothing carries into your reviews, so a bad run costs you nothing.

Play on the level you just studied. A quick round right after a lesson shows you in two minutes which new items are sticking and which need another look before they reach reviews.
品 · The line-up

What's in the arcade right now.

Here's the current line-up. We add new games over time, so what you see on the games page may be a little ahead of this list.

When games open

Finish a level's lessons to unlock it.

A game needs something to drill, so it opens once you've completed all the lessons on your phase's first level. From there, each level you clear is added to what the games can pull from. See Lessons & Phases for how levels unlock.

Still on kana?

Vocabulary games wait for Phase 2.

While you're in Kana Awakening, the kana games are yours to play and the vocabulary set sits locked, since there are no kanji words to drill yet. Cross into Core Ascent and that second set opens on its own.

The arcade keeps growing

More games land over time.

The arcade isn't a fixed set. We keep building new ways to drill the same items, and they show up on the games page as they're ready, no update needed on your end. It's worth a look now and then to see what's new.

Got two minutes? Play a round.

The arcade is the easiest way to make daily practice something you actually want to open. See how it fits a daily routine in Best Way to Use Fuguro, or head back to all help sections.
